The pregnancy journey is certainly not one without its bumps along the way, but I don’t think anyone could have predicted or planned having one during a pandemic… There wasn’t anything in the baby books on this!
Pregnancy can often seem like an isolating journey at times, without having to self-isolate and social distance when you’re at the time that you want to show that beautiful baby bump off and have the support of your friends and family by your side. As lockdown restrictions are slowly starting to ease in the UK, social distancing is something that’s here to stay.
The pandemic has shown us the real sense of community and how we can all reach out and support each other through these challenging times, and during pregnancy is no different. Here’s some coping tips for being pregnant whilst continuing to social distance.
Social Media & Online Support Groups
One positive that has come from the pandemic is the real sense of community that we have in the UK. From the weekly NHS clap on your street to reaching out to your neighbours to check if they need any supplies, or even just to have someone to talk to.
The positivity and support on social media right now is amazing, and you never need to feel alone. Curate your social media feed with positivity and accounts that make you feel good. There are plenty of pregnancy related Instagram accounts to follow and some other celebrity mums that are also going through the same thing right now, Lucy Meck and Danielle Armstrong are amazing with their daily updates now their little ones are here.
Look on Facebook for various pregnancy support groups to help guide you through those niggling questions you may have. Pregnancy During COVID-19 Pandemic is home to a whopping 22,000 members, if you aren’t already, make sure you join this group full of so many expectant mums that are there every step of the way with you.
Keep In Touch
Whilst you may not be able to see your loved ones right now, the beauty of technology is that you can see or speak to them in the comfort and safety of your own home whenever you want.
DO keep your family and friends updated daily so they can check in with you and always reach out to someone if you’re feeling slightly isolated or struggling with something. Whilst it’s not the same, the likes of FaceTime and Zoom mean that it’s the next best thing to seeing them in person. Speaking and having the support of your loved ones each day is the boost that you need to keep your health and wellbeing for you, and baby on track.
Virtual Baby Shower
If you’re getting towards the later stages of your pregnancy and had a baby shower that you can’t have anymore, don’t sweat. Take it online, and make it even better! We’re all having to adapt to the ‘new normal’ way of doing things, so be creative! It will keep your mind occupied and have something to look forward to pre baby arriving.
Create some invites to send to your loved ones, get a gorgeous backdrop going with some balloons and even a cake, and plan some interactive games along with lots of giggles and gossip during the baby shower.
Whilst not everyone has a baby shower, during these current times, just having everyone there online will give you the lift you need, without having to spend £££ on it, it’s a win win all round, no one needs to miss out!

Remember, better days are coming! Social distancing won’t go on forever, but whilst it does just remember that it’s for the safety and wellbeing for you and your baby.
Better days are coming where your new bundle of joy will be here and you’ll be able to celebrate and seek comfort in all the wonderful friends and family you have around you. Keep being amazing, talking to your loved ones, being kind to yourself and staying safe, and take comfort in knowing that baby will be here so soon!
